Hot and humid conditions this week will put an extra strain on power production facilities to keep up with air conditioning demand.
Northwestern Energy Spokesman Tom Glanzer says warm nights really pushes demand…..
Glanzer says they used to worry about peak loads pushing their capacity. He says they added a plant to their system just for that demand…..
Northwestern serves about sixty-three thousand customers in eastern South Dakota. Their peak demand was three hundred six megawatts in 2015. Their average daily load is about one hundred eighty-six megawatts.
Glanzer says summer weather in general can be hard on their equipment….
Glanzer says they also have wind generation available if needed to keep the fans spinning.
