The recent round of cooler weather didn’t cause any damage to fields in Northwest Iowa. Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist Joel DeJong says even though it’s been cooler, it didn’t get cold enough to cause any major problems.
He says if the cooler conditions persist, there could be some troubles with herbicides in the ground longer and some issues caused by fungi but their hope now is that conditions warm up.
DeJong says most of the corn has been planted in Northwest Iowa and only about a quarter of the soybeans have yet to be seeded.
DeJong says Northwest Iowa missed most of the frost and colder conditions that hit other parts of the state with the Northeast getting hit the hardest where temperatures dropped into the twenties.
