The top basketball players for the week have received their honors from the Northern Sun Conference.
NSIC North Division Player of the Week
#40 Jill Conrad (F, 6-0, So., Lino Lakes, Minn. / Centennial HS) – Northern State
– Led NSU in total points in wins over BSU (59-43) and UMC (76-70), collecting a total of 47 points
– Recorded 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals in the Bemidji State match-up
– Tallied a career-high 32 points against North division rival UMC, shooting 3-of-5 from three-point range and 77.8 percent from the field
– Continues to lead the Wolves at 14.1 points per game, with a field goal percentage of 55.3 and a free-throw percentage of 92.7 at the top of the NSIC
– The win over UMC gave the Wolves sole possession of first place in the NSIC North Division
NSIC South Division Player of the Week
#3 Taylor Varsho (G, 5-7, Sr., Chili, Wis. / Marshfield HS) – Sioux Falls
– Led USF to two victories while averaging 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4 assists
– Scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Cougars past Concordia-St. Paul
– Recorded her second straight 20-point game with 26 in win over Minnesota State, her ninth 20-point game of the season
– Hit eight 3-pointers, including a 5-of-7 outing against Minnesota State
– Handed out four assists and recorded a steal in each contest
– Extended streak of consecutive games with a three-point field goal to 30 games
– This marks the third time this season Varsho has been named NSIC Player of the Week (11/30/15 & 12/14/15)
NSIC North Division Player of the Week
#22 Scottie Stone (G, 6-4, 190, Jr., Melrose, Minn. / Melrose HS) – St. Cloud State
– Averaged 25 points per game in SCSU two wins over U-Mary and Minot State
– Became only the 39th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points
– Scored 32 points in the team’s victory over Mary on Friday
– The 30 plus points was the fourth time in his last six games that he has scored 28 or more points in a game
– Tied his season-high with six made threes and added three rebounds,three assists and a steal
– Tallied 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting against Minot State with a pair of made threes
– Added three rebounds and a team-high five assists plus a steal against MISU
NSIC South Division Player of the Week
#34 Daniel Jansen (F, 6-9, 240, Sr., Orange City, Iowa / MOC-Floyd Valley HS) – Augustana
– Averaged 23 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 46.9 percent from the field
– Had 15 points and 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season in a 75-62 win at WSU
– Moved up to second all-time in scoring at Augustana in the win over Winona State
– Recorded his third straight double-double and fifth career 30-plus point game in a 96-87 win at UIU
– Finished with 31 points and 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season (19th career)
– His biggest shot of the night came with 49 seconds left in the game when he hit his third triple of the game with 49 seconds left that allowed the Vikings to pull away late
– Has now scored 1,367 points in 80 career NSIC games which puts him fourth all-time in NSIC history
– Is just 64 points shy of Augustana’s all-time scoring record having scored 1,901 career points
– This marks the fourth time this season and third week in a row Jansen has been named NSIC South Division Player of the Week (12/14/15, 1/11/16 & 1/18/16)
– This marks the first time an individual has earned NSIC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors in three straight weeks (dating back to the 1999-00 season)
– Jansen has tied David Zellmann (WSU, 2005-06) and Josh Quigley (UMD, 1999-00) for most NSIC Player of the Week awards in one season (since 1999-00)
