NCAA Division II has announced regular-season nationally televised football games that will be carried on ESPN3, WatchESPN and the American Sports Network.
. For the first time in Northern State University history, the Wolves will be featured in the game of the week versus Southwest Minnesota State University on Saturday September 10 on ESPN3/WatchESPN at 6 p.m. (CDT).
The game is part of the 22-game NCAA Division II Football Showcase, which broadcasts two national games of the week, with one airing on ESPN3/WatchESPN and the other on the American Sports Network
. “This second year, with an expanded broadcast schedule, continues to give Division II student-athletes a chance to play in front of a national audience,” said Terri Steeb Gronau, vice president of Division II. “Division II student-athletes balance community engagement and strong academics with their athletics, and this national platform gives the division the opportunity to highlight the successes of these student-athletes on and off the field.” The 6 p.m. match-up between the Wolves and the Mustangs will be the second annual Northern State University Ag Bowl, sponsored by InsuraCrop. NSU and SMSU last faced off in the fall of 2014, where the Wolves came away with a 46-43 victory. The Wolves are 22-10-2 all-time versus the Mustangs, but SMSU has won four of the last six meetings in the series since 2008. SMSU last played in Aberdeen, South Dakota, on Sept. 8, 2012, earning a 32-30 victory. SMSU finished the 2015 season with a record of 8-3 and tied for fourth in the 16-team NSIC. NSU finished 6-5 a season ago and tied for first place in the NSIC North Division standings and finished seventh overall.
