Recent windy weather that brought drying conditions helped some Northeast Nebraska farmers catch up with their harvest following earlier delays. University of Nebraska Extension Agronomist Megan Taylor says they were able to harvest most of their soybeans while corn farmers made good progress despite some stalk issues.
She says many of the ears were low enough on the plant that they remained attached despite the wind. Taylor says the recent winds helped dry things out enough to allow harvest to get going.
Taylor says most of their growers in Platte, Nance and Boone counties shifted acres to corn from soybeans.
She says wet weather early this year caused producers to take quite a bit of prevented planting this year.
Taylor says yields have ranged in the dryland corn from 150 to 200 bushels an acre with the irrigated corn f rom 170 to 210 bushels an acre. She says the soybean yield range has been 40 to 60 bushels per acre.
