Last week, a group of Panamanian flour millers were in North Dakota meeting with the State Wheat Commission, NDSU officials and touring a local elevator. The group also traveled to Portland Oregon and Seattle Washington to see the ports where ag goods are shipped across the globe. Wheat Commission’s Marketing Specialist Erica Olson says the timing of the group’s trip was good.
Olson says Panama is a good customer of U.S. wheat and gets almost 90 percent of its needs from the United States.
Olson says after a slow start , North Dakota’s wheat crop has been doing well.
New crop sales of U.S. hard red spring wheat to Panama has been particularly strong with nearly 2 million bushels of new crop sales on the books.
