Rail car availability is improving in North Dakota but a long term solution is still needed for earlier bottlenecks that left agriculture waiting and oil getting rail deliveries. That’s according to Dan Wogsland, Executive Director of the North Dakota Grain Grower’s Association. He says getting that grain moving is still a concern for producer’s bottomline.
Wogsland who attended a Public Service Commission meeting this week says one solution that came up was the possibility of legal action unless more grain cars were made available and a greater effort made by railroads to get the grain moving. He’s hoping they’ll find a resolution and it won’t come down to that.
He says since the Surface Transportation Board stepped in, fertilizer shipments for planting needs picked up.
Wogsland gives the railroads credit for committing to providing more rail cars by next year. He says Burlington Northern Santa Fe committed to putting $ 5 billion into that after putting in $ 4 billion last year.
