Railroads have been working to catch up on backlogs of rail cars and shipments. Despite that effort North Dakota farm leaders estimate they’re still 2 to three months behind with what’s needed and they are concerned with harvest just around the corner. North Dakota Farmers Union President Mark Watne says the railroads have been reporting to the Surface Transportation Board and are making an effort, but are still behind.
Watne says harvest time will be difficult as railroads try to catch up.
He expects some farmers to have to pile grain on the ground with the expected rail car demand at harvest time.
Watne says they’re still hoping for a long term solution to the backlog
