A bill which would make all private land in North Dakota presumed “posted” for no trespassing passed in the state Senate last week. The measure, which enhances private property rights, returns for further debate in the House Committee this week. North Dakota Farm Bureau Public Policy Director Pete Hanebutt says his group backs the bill despite opposition from some hunters.
He says the legislation protects land owners, while allowing hunters some access if the owners agree to it. He says by using electronic technology, they can show which areas are open to hunting and which are not.
Hanebutt says the bill achieves their main goal of enhancing private property rights.
He says the legislation also protects farmers and ranchers who have stepped up biosecurity on their operations.
