The North Dakota Legislature’s Interim Committee held their first meeting this week looking at the trespass issue in the state. During the regular legislative session, lawmakers failed to pass a measure that contained a compromise protecting the property rights of landowners and still allowing hunting access. North Dakota Farm Bureau Public Policy Director Pete Hanebutt says the committee is considering the idea of having electronic maps that show where hunting is and isn’t allowed.
He says they want the committee to come up with a legislative solution in 2021 both sides can agree on.
Hanebutt says landowners and hunters at this point are far apart on any possible agreement.
It’ll be at least 2021 before any bill can be considered as the North Dakota legislature meets every two years.
