Candidates to become the new U.S. Secretary of Agriculture have emerged with the top ones listed as former North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp, and current Congresswoman Marcia Fudge of Ohio along with Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. North Dakota Farmers Union President Mark Watne thinks Heitkamp would be an excellent choices for that job and his group is backing her for the position.

He says it’s critical the next farm bill provided enough aid to farmers that they don’t have to rely on ad hoc programs when disasters pop up.

Watne says what would really help Northern Plains farmers and ranchers would be having Heitkamp as Ag Secretary and Amy Klobuchar heading up the U.S. Justice Department.

Watne says another critical position is the next Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. He says it’s important to have someone at the helm who balances out regulations with reality.
