The North Dakota Legislature could wrap up their 2021 session sometime this week. It’s been a positive session for the State’s Farm Bureau members. Public Policy Director Pete Hanebutt says thanks to his group winning a lawsuit and the subsequent passage of legislation, state code was fixed to allow more efficient progression of livestock permitting and development.
He says the problem came about when local and township governments misinterpreted state law and used it to block livestock development but now that’s been fixed.
Hanebutt says as the session winds down, his group is hoping state lawmakers pass a measure to help rural infrastructure.
He says another legislative victory was passage of a bill to allow electronic posting regarding hunting to help hold up private property rights.
