The North American Manure Expo continues today in Brookings. SDSU Extension Water Resources Field Specialist David Kringen says the largest manure specific expo in the country is focused on helping farmers and applicators learn how to manage manure as a resource and an asset.
Kringen says with the growth in livestock production in the region it’s important to educate farmers and applicators about proper application to protect the environment.
Resource Conservationist John Lentz is in charge of field demos which showcase the various types of manure spreaders and equipment.
Lentz says manure technology has come a long way and with precision agriculture farmers can apply the exact amount the crop needs. That helps protect the water and other natural resources.
The two day exposition is being held at the Swiftel Center and draws participants from the five states.
