Thursday, the South Dakota Senate Agriculture Committee voted to advance Senate Bill 24, the Governor’s measure that extends the sunset of the non-meandered waters law to 2021. State Farm Bureau Lobbyist Mike Held says several agriculture and sportsman groups are backing the measure. He says the law needs time to work.

He says by approving the extension in SB 24, it allows legislators time to work out all the bugs in the regulation.

Held says having Committee passage, along with the support of several groups bodes well for its approval in the full Senate.

Held says the South Dakota Farm Bureau has been working on the non-meandered waters issue for at least 25 years and last year’s compromise was a real breakthrough.
