The call for a special session of the South Dakota legislature has failed.
Representative Elizabeth May of Kyle had sent letters to all one hundred five legislators, asking them to support the call to debate education funding and common core standards.
On her website, May lists only fourteen legislators that supported the call. She needed two thirds of both chambers.

Governor Dennis Daugaard says it is what he expected.

Daugaard says no matter what the Blue Ribbon Task Force decides, legislators will have plenty of time to debate those findings.

The Governor says the task force needs to follow through on its process.
