No Senate Support for Nebraska Wind and Solar Tax Credits

Some Nebraska State Senators used a filibuster to stop legislation that would have provided the state’s first every production tax credits for wind farms and solar energy facilities. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen was disappointed by the action. He says they have a lot of support for the measure which is needed in Nebraska.

North Platte Senator Mike Groene led the opposition to the bill. He says Nebraska doesn’t need additional energy and that wind farm development would harm the state’s public power system. Hansen says that doesn’t support the facts.

Hansen isn’t giving up on another attempt to get the bill passed.

The total amount of credits available under the legislation would have been capped at $75 million and energy facilities would have had to five years to apply.
