No Property Tax Relief Found Yet by NE Unicameral

No Property Tax Relief Found Yet by NE Unicameral

The 2016 Nebraska state legislative session is winding down with no resolution yet on property tax relief. Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association Legislative Director Laura Field says they’re hoping they’ll find some type of solution before the Unicameral adjourns.

She says one of the Governor’s proposals was to put a 3-percent cap on ag valuations per year. However, Senators are shying away from that. Field says a new option is a five-year land sale average for determining valuations.

Field says getting solid property tax relief is a long term problem and this year’s legislative proposals are just the beginning.

Property tax measures were heard in Committee last week but nothing has moved out yet.
