While there is no bill yet, South Dakota lawmakers have had a lot of discussion about tax increases. Governor Dennis Daugaard says he wants a half cent sales tax increase for teacher pay, while democrats will propose a one cent increase, but removing sales tax from food.

Representative Jim Bolin of Canton says he doesn’t think there is enough support in the House yet to pass any tax increase…..

Bolin says there are other ideas being considered for increasing teacher pay….

Bolin says legislators and school district officials are concerned about part of the Governor’s proposals that would equalize “other funds” that some districts receive….

Legislators took a four day weekend, and will return to Pierre tomorrow.
