Members of the No Keystone XL Pipeline coalition along with several interveners says they’ll continue to battle Trans Canada’s project and will appear at a South Dakota Public Utilities Commission hearing in May. The group wanted to testify at this week’s hearing in Pierre but were told Commissioners would take into account pre briefs that were filed. Rosebud Sioux Tribal member and Coalition spokesman Gary Dorr says they have a lot of environmental concerns with the project tied to Alberta tar sands.
Dorr says besides attending the May hearing they’re considering other options in opposing the pipeline project.
Dorr says another reason his group is against the Canadian pipeline is because the U.S. is already energy independent and doesn’t need the oil the pipeline will bring. He says Trans Canada doesn’t intend to sell it to the U.S. but will transport it across the country and have it put up for bid in Texas.
