No Charges For Corrections Officials

Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning says the special legislative committee reviewing what went wrong in Corrections that led to the miscalculation of hundreds of prison sentences failed to stay focused.
Bruning has announced no criminal charges will be filed against Corrections officials who failed to follow state Supreme Court rulings on prison sentencing.
Bruning says his office reviewed everything in their consideration of criminal charges, including the legislative committee’s findings. . .

Bruning specifically points to the committee’s decision to subpoena Governor Dave Heineman to testify, calling it a piece of political theater.

Bruning says his office and the office of Lancaster County Attorney Joe Kelly independently rejected filing charges of official misconduct or obstructing government operations. . .

The Nebraska State Patrol conducted the criminal investigation.
