So far, so good when it comes to West Nile virus in Nebraska this summer with no cases reported.  University of Nebraska – Lincoln Extension Entomologist Jody Green says there is a lot of summer left and precautions need to be taken against this virus that is spread by mosquitos as it can cause serious illness.

Green says one key to controlling mosquitoes on your property is to limit their breeding ground which is stagnant water.

Green also recommends using repellent that contains DEET or products like RI3535, Picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus.  West Nile symptoms are similar to the flu and can be deadly in some individuals.
