No Agreement on Nebraska School Aid Increase

A move to ease the property tax burden on Nebraska farmers by supplying more state aid to local schools doesn’t seem to have the votes to move forward this legislative session.
Senator Steve Halloran of Hastings says farmers are paying huge property tax bills even though they aren’t making much money right now. . .

The proposal would have moved 224-Million dollars from the Property Tax Credit Fund into state aid to the school districts which rely the heaviest on property tax revenue.
Opponent Senator Rick Kolowski of Omaha agrees there is a problem. . .

It appears supporters lack the 33 votes to move the measure forward.
