Leaders of the National Milk Producers Federation say they want to work with Robert Lighthizer, President Elect Trump’s nominee for U.S. Trade Representative. The Federation’s Chris Galen says Lighthizer like Trump has not been happy with some of the trade deals negotiated in the past.

He says exports have become even more important to the dairy industry than they were in the past and they want to make sure Lighthizer is careful in how he deals with U.S. trading partners.

Galen says whoever is in charge of trade needs to keep in mind U.S. dairy exports have quadrupled over the past several years and that growth needs to continue.

If confirmed by the Senate, Lighthizer will take the lead in talks that could culminate in the bilateral deal’s the President-elect prefers.
