Another farm group is weighing in on the national biotech labeling debate and wants clarification on how milk and meat produced with biotech feed will be treated. The National Milk Producers Federation wants some type of national regulation put in place before the state law in Vermont goes into effect July 1. Federation’s Chris Galen says the Senate needs to approve legislation as soon as possible.
He says its critical livestock producers are not required to disclose they’re feeding biotech grain so meat and milk have to be labeled.
Galen says whatever national standard Senators come up with, it should be clear and transparent for consumers.
Senate Ag Chairman Pat Roberts and Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow are working on a labeling compromise. They have it down to three sticking points but wouldn’t elaborate on what those are.
