U.S. Senators Tom Cotton of Arkansas and David Perdue of Georgia are proposing legislation to curb legal immigration. It’s called the Reforming American Immigration for Stronger Employment Act. Chris Galen with the National Milk Producer’s Federation says they have concerns with the bill as the labor disruption would detrimentally impact U.S. food production.

He says the National Milk Producers Federation and other ag groups are continuing to pressure Congress to pass immigration reform that allows for a legal immigrant workforce.

Galen says they’re also asking Congress to pass legislation that calls for a strong guest worker program.

Galen says the guest worker program is needed as the H2A visa program doesn’t fit the needs of workers in the U.S. dairy industry.
