This week, the House passed the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, an ag labor bill that provides comprehensive immigration reform. National Milk Producers Federation’s Vice President of Government Relations Paul Bleiberg says it’s a good first step in providing dairy producers the legal immigrant workforce they need for their operation.

He says the legislation helps provide dairy producers the year round workers they need.

Bleiberg says their goal now is to work with Senators to get whatever measure they come up with to combine with the Farm Workforce Modernization Act and get a final immigration measure that can pass.

Bleiberg notes the House passed measure is the first comprehensive immigration bill approved in that body since 1986.
