Senate Ag Committee Chairman Pat Roberts and Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow are pressing the USDA and U.S. Trade Representative to mitigate the damaging effect of Canada’s dairy pricing policy on U.S. dairy producers.

Chris Galen with the National Milk Producers Federation is pleased to see the Senators pushing the issue because its caused both near term and long term economic harm.

He says the biggest concern with Canada’s dairy pricing scheme is its impact on the world market.

Galen says the Canadians are violating NAFTA and World Trade Organization rules with their dairy pricing policy.

Galen says the problem needs to be resolved before any renegotiation of NAFTA.
