President Trump has ended federal protection for young undocumented immigrants under DACA or the Deferred Action on Child Arrival Program. Some think that could mean a larger debate on ag labor and immigration reform. National Milk Producer Federation’s Chris Galen says they were hoping to get movement on immigration, but that could get pushed back because of DACA.
He says the immigration debate gets complicated with DACA added to the already full plate of issues Congress is dealing with.
Galen says its unknown how the President’s DACA decision will affect ag immigrant laborers with children staying in the U.S. or possibly leaving.
There are currently 800,000 young undocumented immigrants in the U.S. effected by DACA.
