The National Grain and Feed Association is working closely with the Surface Transportation Board on rail policy issues. NGFA President Randy Gordon says one of those is a proposal on reciprocal switching to help move grain and other products in a more timely, efficient and cost effective manner.
He says they also want the rail line switches to be determined on a case by case basis and are asking for safeguards to be put in place so railroads cannot overcharge for switching.
Finally, Gordon says the STB is also considering a separate class for rate cases brought by smaller shippers.
Gordon says currently even larger shippers are reluctant to file rate cases because they are too costly and so the industry needs a workable mechanism for these cases.
