National Grain and Feed Association officials say they want Congress to pass a long term highway bill when they return next week from the August break. NGFA’s Director of Economics and Government Relations Max Fisher says the highway legislation is critical for agriculture.
Fisher says a long term measure is needed in order to get the right and most beneficial policies in the legislation.
Fisher says one of the needed provisions is to give states options on truck weights.
Fisher says another important component to the highway bill would be a provision to help address the shortage of truck drivers. He says it would help to lower the age for a Commercial Drivers License to 18 from 21.
