The Senate this week unanimously passed the reauthorization of the U.S. Grains Standards Act and sent it over to the House for their consideration. Pleased with the approval is Randy Gordon, President and CEO of the National Grain and Feed Association. He says the act regulates marketing standards for grain and oilseeds and extends the inspection authority through September of 2025.
He says the Act allows grains to be traded more efficiently and in a less costly way which benefits producers and consumers.
The legislation requires the USDA to conduct a thorough review of the agency’s official geographic areas. Gordon says that’s an important component to the measure and one which his group wholeheartedly backs.
Gordon says that geographic provision hadn’t been updated since the late 1970s so that was badly needed. He’s hopeful the House will follow suit and approve the legislation.
