NGFA Brings Rate Challenge Plan To STB

The National Grain and Feed Association has proposed a new rule and brought it to the Surface Transportation Board to streamline challenges of rail freight rates. NGFA President Randy Gordon say their plan, called the rate reasonableness methodology not only streamlines the process but does away with the previous complex, costly and time consuming challenge system.
Gordon says under the present system, the last time a challenge was brought it took 18 years before a decision was made. He says their proposal cuts out the red tape and calls for the S-T-B to decide on the challenge within 170 days.
Gordon says the S-T-B is taking comments on the proposed challenge rule up until August 25. He says after that a hearing will likely be held where public comments are given. Following that a proposed rule will come forward either late this year or early in 2015.
