The U.S. Trade Representative’s Office along with the Commerce Department are in the process of evaluating all U.S. Free Trade Agreements and have solicited comments. Recently submitting suggestions were the National Grain and Feed Association along with the North American Export Grain Association. NGFA President Randy Gordon says those trade agreements are very important for agriculture.
He says they have several suggestions for improving trade that USTR and the Commerce Department should pursue.
Gordon says their final two recommendations include the need to quickly achieve a bilateral trade agreement with Pacific Rim customers as well as work out trade difficulties with the European Union.
He says most of the problems with the E.U. center around them not following science based criteria for trade which leads them to enact non tariff barriers. Gordon says they wanted to get their comments in prior to the beginning of the NAFTA talks.
