The National Farmers Union along with a large coalition of agricultural groups have sent off a letter to Senate leaders asking them to pass an ag labor reform bill. NFU President Rob Larew says the measure is badly needed because the current H2A program intended for immigration relief isn’t working.

He says there is growing support for the Farm Workforce Modernization Act immigration legislation and NFU and many others are backing that measure as an ag labor solution.

Larew says besides providing a pathway to citizenship for those immigrant workers currently in the country, there are also other issues that must be resolved in order to approve a positive ag labor reform measure.

Larew says the Farm Workforce Modernization Act is a bipartisan measure that would streamline the hiring process for employers and enable workers to earn legal status through continued agricultural employment.
