National Farmers Union leaders are backing GIPSA rules that will give more protection to contract growers. That would impact mostly pork and poultry producers. NFU President Roger Johnson says there are basically three rules that are being considered.

He says his group is meeting with several growers to inform them how these proposed rules will affect them and why they should support them.

Johnson says pork producers are also affected as are some cattle producers.

He says one of the problems the GIPSA rules would fix is it would prevent those who contract with companies to have to prove competitive damages in order to get relief.
