The National Farmers Union submitted public comments to the Environmental Protection Agency on their proposed rule to amend certain existing Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) and greenhouse gas emission standards. President Roger Johnson says they want the EPA to put rules in place that allow a move to higher octane fuels.
He says they also commented against regulations proposed by the EPA that would limit higher blends of ethanol fuels.
When asked why the EPA seems to be moving against renewable fuels with their recent proposals, Johnson says that due to budget cuts EPA is now relying on the oil industry for technical advice.
Johnson told the EPA that mid-level ethanol blends ranging from E20 to E40 are the most economical high octane fuels available today.
