The leader of the National Farmers Union says President Trump missed some opportunities with his recently released guidelines for renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement. NFU President Roger Johnson says one objective that should have been included was labeling rules for food, namely meat.

Johnson says it doesn’t make sense the President wants labeling rules for automobiles, but not for U.S. produced meat. He adds the new NAFTA needs to address the current beef trade deficit the U.S. has with Canada and Mexico.

Johnson says while dairy is a sticking point with NAFTA, negotiators need to approach that issue cautiously.

Johnson says if dairy isn’t addressed properly it could result in even more Canadian dairy products coming into the U.S.
