The Republican lead House last week on a 219 to 205 vote passed the so called Ryan budget that would cut spending by $ 5.1 trillion over the next ten years and slash funds for social programs. It also calls for $ 1 trillion in cuts for farm subsidies, food stamps and Pell grants. National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson says it’s just a political document that is doomed to fail. He says agriculture has already taken its share of cuts in the recently passed farm bill.
Johnson says the House passed budget which doesn’t make any sense is dead on arrival in the Senate and even in the remote chance it would get through that body would likely be vetoed by the President.
Earlier versions of Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan’s plan passed the House three times since the Republicans won control of the chamber following the 2010 mid term elections.
