National Farmers Union leaders are unhappy with President Trump’s 2019 budget proposal. They say the President’s proposal severely cuts many program farmers rely on including close to $50 billion from the farm bill and close to $4 billion from the USDA. NFU President Roger Johnson says the cuts that come from the President’s proposed budget don’t make sense and hurts farmers, consumers and retirees that can least afford it.
He says the good news is that President’s budgets are usually shot down in Congress, however there is concern that eventually it could become part of public policy down the road.
Johnson says the President isn’t even attempting to solve the country’s deficit problem which is a priority for his group.
Johnson calls the President’s budget plan a shortsighted and harmful plan that needs to be rejected by Congress.
