Farmers and Ranchers get 12.1 cents for every dollar that consumers spend on their Thanksgiving dinner meals. That’s according to the National Farmers Union. President Roger Johnson says they used USDA data along with real grocery prices to come up with the farmers share.
He says wheat growers get an even smaller share of what the consumer pays for his or her thanksgiving dinner rolls.
Johnson says on average, farmers receive14.6 cents of every food dollar consumers spend throughout the year. He says the thanksgiving share is much less than that.
Johnson hopes the farmer share statistics they’ve compiled compels policy makers to come up with ways to help improve the overall farm economy.
