President Donald Trump following trade talks meetings in China last week that were called constructive ratcheted up the trade war by announcing more tariffs on China starting in September. China has promised to retaliate. National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson doesn’t blame the President for holding China accountable.
He says rather than imposing tariffs, President Trump should proceed with a different strategy that includes drumming up support from other countries concerned with China’s actions.
Johnson says one of the indications of the tariff strategy not working can be seen by the latest move by the fed to cut interest rates.
More trade talks between China and the United States are scheduled for September when the additional tariffs are set to go into effect.
