House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is planning to revive a committee on climate change once the Democrats take over control of the U.S. House following the lame duck session. The Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming was dissolved by Republicans in 2011 after the GOP took control of the House. National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson welcomes the move and says agriculture is in a position to take a leadership role in positively impacting climate change.
He says once the committee is revived they want it to focus on providing incentives to private companies and farmers and ranchers to enhance climate change.
Johnson says it’s also important the committee support more development of biofuels, which have increasingly improved the environment.
Johnson says its critical the agriculture and environmental communities work together for addressing climate change and include incentives and sound science.
