President Donald Trump tweeted last week he wants the Conference Committee to keep work requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program in the final farm bill. That was included in the farm bill passed by the House. National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson says that isn’t going to happen.
He says those House passed SNAP requirements don’t belong in the farm bill. Johnson also says there needs to be more funding in the final farm legislation.
Johnson says the House and Senate conferees will have to compromise in order to get a farm bill passed and not have to go to an extension.
Johnson says there is a path to getting a farm bill done and that conferees will have to follow the Senate version which was arrived at in a more bi-partisan fashion.
