Late last week the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit heard arguments in the ongoing Country of Origin Labeling lawsuit.  U.S. and Canadian meat packer groups appealed the original court decision that turned down their request for an injunction to stop the COOL law saying their free speech rights are being violated. National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson says his group and others defending COOL will win their case and COOL will be upheld.

Johnson says consumers have a right to know where their food comes from. He also says if meatpackers lose their appeal, the issue will likely remain in court and will take awhile before a final outcome is decided.

Johnson says if the meatpackers should win their appeal then a preliminary injunction would case COOL to stop on a temporary basis until a trial is held on the merits of the case.
