The National Farmers Union is applauding the Obama administration and international leaders on the Paris climate deal reached over the weekend. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says the historic and ambitious agreement is a good starting place to mitigate the potentially devastating effects of climate change on family farmers, ranchers and global food security.

Hansen says, however, agriculture needs to be more positively involved in the solutions to climate change going forward.

Nearly 200 nations signed the Paris climate deal. It provides a long-term framework for limiting warming to 2 degrees Celsius and necessitates immediate and significant curbing of greenhouse gas emissions.
