NFU Passes Policy On Trade, Biofuels, Check Off And Immigration

National Farmers Union members wrapped up their convention in Santa Fe, New Mexico this week by passing special orders of business. Three of their major policy resolutions were in support of the Renewable Fuel Standard and opposing the Trans Pacific Partnership agreement as well as Trade Promotion Authority. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke is chair of NFU’s legislative committee and says there are many problems with TPP including no fix for the trade imbalance.

Sombke says they’re opposing TPA because there’s no Congressional oversight with it with them just having an up or down vote on what the President submits to them. He says another important policy backs renewable fuels.

Other policies passed by NFU included calling for immediate repeal of sequestration or automatic budget cuts, reform of the beef check off program calling for removal of all policy groups from the check off and support for comprehensive immigration reform with a guest worker program.
