The National Farmers Union is opposing the proposed significant cut by President Trump in his 2020 fiscal year budget for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service. NFU President Roger Johnson says if that cut holds up and is approved by Congress, the U.S. will lose its leadership position in advancing ag research globally.
He says farmers will feel the long term effects of cutting the ARS budget.
Johnson says NFU is also opposing the proposed move of the Economic Research Service and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture out of Washington, D.C.
The proposed ERS budget cut by the Administration is to provide the potential for savings on employment costs.
