The National Farmers Union likes most of what is in President Obama’s $ 4 trillion proposed fiscal year 2016 budget but wants to see some adjustments. NFU Vice President of Programs Chandler Goule thinks there are many things in the proposed budget that will help agriculture but says the crop insurance cuts need to be fixed.
The President’s proposal also calls for establishing one food safety agency and likely moving it to Health and Human Services away from FDA and USDA. Goule says his group likes the idea of having one agency but says it should stay at USDA where he thinks it will be most effective.
Goule also says the President’s budget plan has the potential to lift up rural communities with meaningful changes to the tax code, investments in rural development programs and expanded educational opportunities.
