President Obama has announced a series of executive actions to ease financial restrictions on trade with Cuba. Under the order, U.S. banks will be able to deal directly with Cuban financial institutions. National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson says the President made the right decision although Congress will still need to lift the trade embargo.
Johnson says Cuba is interested in purchasing many U.S. ag commodities.
He says it doesn’t make sense not to trade with Cuba when the U.S. is already trading with Vietnam and China.
Johnson who formerly was North Dakota’s Ag Commissioner made eight trips to Cuba on various trade missions. He says besides the potential agricultural business, Cuba is a great destination for tourists.
