Friday, the U.S. Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia refused to block meat labeling rules. The Appeals Court upheld an earlier lower court decision denying a preliminary injunction to meat industry groups challenging the country of origin labeling law. National Farmers Union’s Senior Vice President of programs Chandler Goule says the decision is a major win for producers and consumers.
Goule says the appeal’s court decision puts COOL on solid grounds. He says NFU is now waiting to see what opponents will try next to dismantle the regulation.
The revised Country of Origin Labeling rule took effect last year and requires labels saying where animals were born, raised and slaughtered.
